Charlottesville, Virginia, Lay Dominicans St. Thomas Aquinas #511

About Us

Members of the Fraternities of St. Dominic are lay men and women who are fully incorporated members of the Order of Preachers and live out their Dominican vocation in the world. Through the Four Pillars of prayer, study, community, and apostolate we work to preach the Gospel and grow in personal holiness. You can learn more about the Lay Dominican life here:

Dominican Spirituality

Dominican Spirituality calls members to certain obligations, when possible according to their state in life, which include:

  • Participating in daily Mass
  • Daily praying some portions of the Liturgy of the Hours, with a minimum component of Morning and Evening Prayer
  • Daily recitation of the Rosary
  • Daily reading and reflecting on Sacred Scripture
  • Monthly reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation
  • Frequent and ongoing study of matters pertaining to the Church, the world, and their apostolate
  • An annual retreat, either on their own or with other members of the Fraternity

Our Apostolate

Our Fraternity Apostolate is “Living the Rosary” and may be manifest in many ways, such as:

  • Make twine rosaries:
    • Rosary Group – meets on Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. in room 5 at St. Thomas Aquinas University Parish.
    • Individually.
    • Pray with the rosaries that are to be handed out.
  • Purchase or make booklets or pamphlets to hand out about the Rosary.
  • Give fraternity-made Rosaries to those who would benefit spiritually from our gift.
  • Teach others how to pray the Rosary.
  • Promote and help maintain a Rosary praying time in our individual parishes.
